An update - did we REALLY trapeze off a 60mph van?
Our last post caused a bit of controversy - we’ve had a lot of people coming up to us and saying things along the lines of “Dudes, you guys are INSANE” and “how did you not got arrested doing that?”.
We chuckled at most of the responses, but some of you were genuinely concerned that we were literally losing our marbles on this trip, hence the reason for this post.
Well, the answer to how we got away with not being arrested will become obvious in a few moments.
But here’s a quick update - it’s been champagne sailing conditions the last couple of days. We had our first outing in 25 knots yesterday with waves the size of our apartment block… forget van journeys with trapezing, THIS was an adrenaline rush! The weather forecast shows that the first day of the Princess Sofia Trophy will be sailed in 20-25 knots, so that is sure to separate the men from the boys.
Our training camp starts in earnest tomorrow so we’re itching to see how we fair against our fellow Brits. Due to the van troubles, we can count the number of days training we’ve had so far on 2 hands, and I only stepped into a 470 for the first time 4 weeks ago. Lucky for us though we have Jonny steering. So the next 5 days are pretty darn important if we are going to do ourselves justice on that start line on Sunday afternoon.
Now, in answer to your questions and concerns, here are a couple of images that might put your mind at ease. I’m afraid we pulled a bit of a practical joke on you, but we hadn’t expected so many people to fall for it. Oh the wonders of photoshop..
A little less hair-raising in reality…
But this really was taken at 60mph on the road…
A bit of copy and pasting later and here is the finished product:
To those who fell for it - we’re shocked and honoured at the same time - do you really think we are this crazy???

Anyone who has experienced Jonny’s driving would have known that he finds it difficult with two hands on the wheel….. taking pics at the same time - never!
However, I can see some advantages to travelling on the outside of a van that has been occupied by you two for any length of time.

Well.. I wasn’t fooled by the Photoshop - although the better trap wire angle was crafted work! - but yes, we all DO think you are crazy enough!
And will be all rooting for you when the sailing gets going too. So good luck.
