Team Madcap running on steam
Later today we SHOULD be leaving the quaint French village of St Chely d’Apcher.
But we have more important news today…
On one of our many trips to the local supermarket (it helps break the monotony), we were making a bee-line to the Pez dispensers via the applicances aisle, and something caught us from the corner of our eye.
They had electric steamers on offer, for 15 euros!
Figuring that it would pay for itself the first time we used it, and mainly because we were fed up of ordering des omelettes aux fromage, we put it in our trolley and began collecting an assortment of stuff to steam for dinner.
We’ve now had 2 meals in it…
And it is nothing short of a REVELATION!
Where has this piece of equipment been all our lives?! I mean, our hotel room has NOTHING in the way of appliances, not even a kettle, yet we managed to cook a full-blown meal with meat, rice and veg. And honestly, I’ve never tasted chicken quite like it, it is scrummy!

Here are our 3 top tips for beginner steam cooking:
1. Make sure to open the window - there’s a good chance our room-maid is a vampire, because our room now permanently smells of garlic, and we haven’t seen her since.
2. Check for fire alarms.
3. Remember to buy washing up liquid - an oversight by us, we ended up having to use Lynx shower gel.
No more fancy self-catering apartment rooms for us in the future, give us a plug socket and away we go!

Oh dear boys! I’ve just had the most entertaining hour of my day reading your blog. I did A level french (a long time ago) maybe these phrases will help you through!
Nous sommes faim - We are hungry
We n’avons pas d’argent - We don’t have any money
Une jour nous avions riche et fameux. Puis Je serais vous payer
One day we will be rich and famous. I’ll pay you then!
Bonne Chance
Ps. Contact me if you need translating services, maybe Green Flag will employ me. I’m looking for a career change!
